My Bible reading had me back to Job 1 today.  I wish I still had the post I wrote on my old blog about the first two chapters of Job because they are SO full of food that I can’t sit down and type it all into one post but I want to share it all!

Let’s just read a section of scripture this morning and break it down.  Don’t skim – this is REALLY powerful!!!!

Job 1:6-12

6 One day the angelscame to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came with them. 7 The Lord said to Satan, “Where have you come from?”

Satan answered the Lord, “From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it.”

8 Then the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil.”

9 “Does Job fear God for nothing?” Satan replied. 10 “Have you not put a hedge around him and his household and everything he has? You have blessed the work of his hands, so that his flocks and herds are spread throughout the land. 11 But stretch out your hand and strike everything he has, and he will surely curse you to your face.”

12 The Lord said to Satan, “Very well, then, everything he has is in your hands, but on the man himself do not lay a finger.”

Then Satan went out from the presence of the Lord.

OK- Job 1:6 —-“and Satan also came with them.”  That is HUGE information.  Sometimes as Christians, I think we just easily believe that Satan is in Hell.  We know he can spread destruction, but we assume he cannot be and is nowhere near God Almighty.  But we see right here that Satan goes directly to God’s presence and speaks to Him FACE to FACE.

7 – “from roaming the Earth”  So not only can Satan enter God’s presence, but he FREELY roams the Earth.

8 – “Have you considered my servant Job?”  Whoa!! BRAKES!!!  This is pretty big stuff.  Do you get what transpired between verses 7 & 8?  Satan was walking into the presence of God, ADMITTING that he was roaming the Earth and God knew EXACTLY why (because he was looking for someone to tempt and devour) and GOD – YES GOD – offers Satan a suggestion!!  God looked down and hand-picked a blameless man whom HE KNEW loved him with a righteous love, and SUGGESTED to Satan that he go test him!

Are you feeling any conviction in this moment?  This takes my breath away EVERY TIME I read it!  If I’m being tested, tempted, devoured, (you know the saying – why do bad things happen to good people?)  It’s because Satan asked permission and God suggested me and gave His permission so He could SHOW ME OFF!!!  God knew Job would defeat Satan with his endless love of God, and so He let His Saint be devastated while on Earth (for a time) to prove an Eternal point to Satan.  (The story thicken as you keep reading chapters!)

Lets go on!

9-11  Here comes Satan with ALL his accusations.  He tells God – Of course Job loves You.  You’ve blessed him, protected him, and he has a happy life.  If you take that away, he’ll curse you to your face.

12a- God says, Very well.  Do whatever you want, but don’t touch Job himself.

While Satan thinks He’s about to win, God knows He’s going to prove to Satan that He created beings who will LOVE Him and CHOOSE Him just because He is GOD and He made them, He is Holy, and Perfect, and Good, and Generous, and Merciful, and Faithful, and Gracious, and Loving.  Satan grew so jealous of God and wanted to be superior.  He was a wicked servant.  And his entire mission now is to trick people into believing God doesn’t exist, He isn’t good, He isn’t loving, His ways are not righteous or necessary and they can serve themselves (which just means they are serving sin, which is actually serving him.)

12b – Then Satan went out of the presence of the Lord.

I just want to reiterate one more time that Satan can go into the presence of the Lord, and does, to accuse and ask permission to attack the brethren.

That’s really powerful.

Maybe you’re feeling attacked today.

Practical Application:

Spend some time in prayer acknowledging that you understand that if you’re facing something (and you are a believer) it’s because Satan asked permission and God granted it.

Ask God to renew your strength and equip you with the weapons needed to fight the battle for your heart and joy.

Thank God that He saw your love for Him and wanted to show you off before the evil one that you made an eternal choice that no earthly disappointment can strip away.  You belong to Him, and in all of Satan’s attacks and best efforts, he can’t steal you away from the Father.

I love this post and it served as confirmation for me. As I go through trials, I often remind myself God is saying, “Have you considered my servant Lisa.”
