I was reading in 1 & 2 Timothy the last two days and felt as though this theme keeps being hammered home in my life, and in the lives of so many that I know.

There needs to be a wider gap between

C hristians – defined as this – those who believe in God, accept His standard as the authority of their lives, admit to having broken and fallen short of the standard, have received the forgiveness and reconciliation that comes from Jesus death on the cross, and then with the power of the Holy Spirit, die to themselves (and ALL their desires) and walk obediently to the Word of God, not perfectly, but with conviction and determination.

c hristians – defined as those who say they believe in God, acknowledge that Jesus dies on the cross, accept some of the Bible (the parts that fit inside the parameters of the life style they want to live) and ignore the rest, and show little to no fruit of obedience to God’s Word.

christians, with a little c, is a made up word.

Christ is a person.  Therefore it is a proper noun.  We become Christians when we become like Christ. We take on a new name. We become a NEW person.

We become christians, when we partially act like Christians but don’t become anyone new at all.  It’s a verb.  It’s an action. It is not a definition of who someone is.  It is the act in which they play.

I know it is easy to have the tendency to glance over scripture – especially if it is a section you’re familiar with… but give this some attention.

3 But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days.2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them.6 They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over weak-willed women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, 7 always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth.

Does this describe the world today? Does this describe someone you know?  Does this describe you?

We’re in trouble folks.  Too many people think because they’re christians, then they’re Christians.  They’re totally deceived.  And the only way to speak truth, is to be in the truth, daily.

Practical Application-

Read the Bible.

Stop sitting on the sidelines, and stand up for truth! We can’t convince someone they aren’t a Christian if we accept all their compromises, therefore blending in ourselves.

We need to widen the gap- TOGETHER!
